Joanne Nelson is a writer and meditation retreat and workshop leader. She is certified by the McLean Meditation Institute as a meditation and mindfulness teacher. Her Wake Up! Mindful Writing program and Just This Day Meditation offerings allow participants to engage and awaken their best creative and intuitive selves while learning to re-story and restore. Nelson’s writing appears in Brevity, Consequence, Redivider, The Riding Light Review, and other publications. She writes creative non-fiction, essays, commentaries on craft, and reviews. Nelson is a contributor to Lake Effect on 89.7 WUWM, her local NPR affiliate. In addition, she gives presentations on topics related to mindfulness and writing, creativity, and crafting the personal essay.
Nelson lives in Hartland, Wisconsin where she develops and leads community programs, maintains a psychotherapy practice, and adjuncts. She holds an MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars and an MSSW from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
