Loretta CheneyJamestown, NY

Loretta Cheney is an MMI Certified Meditation & Mindfulness Instructor who loves sharing her passion for meditation with the art students she sees daily at Falconer Central School. She begins every class with what she calls, conscious breathing, understanding that it may be the only time her students allow themselves a few moments to break away from the stressful routines of their daily lives.

During her teenage years, Loretta started to feel the effects of anxiety as her future began to stretch out before her. She felt pressured to be the perfect child, perfect student, perfect athlete; Simply Perfect. As a teacher, she began to notice students struggling to cope with all of the demands their overscheduled lives impressed upon them in order to maintain good grades and social status, while pleasing friends, teachers, coaches, and parents. Seeing herself in them, Loretta knows what it feels like to wear as many masks as needed in order to maintain those high expectations. She shares her own experiences, wisdom, vulnerability, and reasons why meditation and mindfulness practices can benefit their lives and inspires them to re-connect to their true selves.

Several years of living with depression and anxiety, coupled with the medications used to treat those issues, encouraged Loretta to seek out meditation as an alternative approach to strengthen her mental health. Understanding that results may vary individually, Loretta was able to let go of her dependence on prescription drugs and now maintains a daily practice instead. She acknowledges their benefits, and occasional necessity, but chose meditation as a drug-free alternative to deal with her issues relating to depression and anxiety. Loretta believes she has found a practice that has increased her sense of self-confidence, creativity, focus, and well-being. She feels she has rediscovered who she is truly meant to be.

Feel free to connect with Loretta via, Facebook, her website, or by phone. She is eagerly looking forward to helping you manage the stress-related issues this world generates and serving as your guide as you navigate to your natural, peace-centered self.
